2008 Economic Stimulus Payment
The IRS has provided these documents related to the upcoming tax rebates.
- Publication 4665– Economic
Stimulus Guide for Benefit Recipients (PDF)
This guide is designed for individuals who receive Social Security, Railroad Retirement, and/or certain Veterans’ benefits who must file a 2007 return in order to receive a payment under the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008. These individuals are not otherwise required to file a federal tax return, but must file a return to receive the economic stimulus payment. Publication 4665 can be used as a self-help guide by this specific group of individuals or as a tool for volunteers to assist this group to file their “stimulus payment” return. By following the steps and guidance in the publication, these individuals (or volunteers assisting them) can determine if they are eligible for an economic stimulus payment. - IRS fact Sheet 2008-17, Low-Income Individuals with No Filing Obligations May Still Qualify for Economic Stimulus Payments (PDF | Word) which is posted on IRS.gov. This contains the basics on determining qualifying income, completing the 1040A form, and receiving assistance on the stimulus payments.
- Letter to the Editor (Word | PDF) contains specific language on the Economic Stimulus Payment that could be used in drop-in articles, newsletters, newspaper stories, etc. Please feel free to use this “official” language in any outreach efforts you are in the process of undertaking to help insure consistency.
- Publications 4664 (English and Spanish) and Publications 4663 (English and Spanish) are publications that can be used if taxpayers are Social Security and Veterans retirement recipients. These are the low resolution versions and, per the designer, will suffice for reading on-line and for those who want to make a few copies.
- Form 1040A (PDF) is an example of how the Form 1040A needs to be completed in order to receive the tax rebate, especially if you are a retiree who doesn’t normally file a return.
